F3 Euro Series

Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) has won the 19th season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series. At the 4.005 kilometres long Circuit Ricardo Tormo, the Italian dominantly kept his team-mate Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) at bay throughout the 27 laps. British driver Tom Blomqvist (ma-con Motorsport) finished third from the best-placed rookie Emil Bernstorff (ma-con Motorsport). In the drivers’ standings, Spanish driver Juncadella extended his points’ lead. He is now 31.5 points clear of Marciello, who moved up into second place.

At the start, Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport) took the lead, but he wasn’t able to keep it for long. In the opening stage already, the Swede was called into the pits for a drive-through penalty because he had not been lined-up correctly in his starting grid box. After that, he dropped back significantly. Raffaele Marciello inherited the lead, which he successfully brought home. While the positions at the front were taken, the drivers in the midfield were involved in numerous battles. In the duel for sixth place, rookie driver Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport) overtook William Buller (Carlin) on lap ten and pulled clear. In the remainder of the race, Buller defended his position from Andrea Roda (Jo Zeller Racing) and Sven Müller (Prema Powerteam).

Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam): “My start wasn’t great, but I was first after Felix’s penalty. Behind me, Daniel was really quick, but I knew that one can hardly overtake here. Therefore, I concentrated on not making any mistakes. After two retirements from the previous races, I am happy to be back on the top step of the podium again.”

Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam): “From third place on the grid, second place was the maximum I could achieve here. At the start and during the race, I didn’t want to take any big risks, but score as many points as possible instead. Partly, I was driving like a grandmother to save my tyres. Tomorrow, I hope to do a little bit better when starting from pole position.”

Tom Blomqvist (ma-con Motorsport): “I am happy with this podium finish. My start wasn’t optimal and Carlos Sainz hit me on the opening lap. But fortunately, my car didn’t have any damage. As a team, we continue making progress, which is very positive.”
