Rosenqvist and Juncadella on second grid row

Alex Lynn (Fortec Motorsport, 2:13.122 minutes) came out on top in second qualifying for the SJM Macau Grand Prix. He toppled António Félix da Costa (Carlin, 2:13.400 minutes), who had been leading after first qualifying, but eventually ended up second. Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam, 2:13.401 minutes) and Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport, 2:13.420 minutes), who were both racing in this year’s Formula 3 Euro Series, will be starting from the second grid row into tomorrow’s qualification race.

Together with Carlos Sainz (Carlin, 2:13.421 minutes) in fifth place, Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport, 2:13.758 minutes) in eighth place and Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam, 2:13.789 minutes) in tenth position, a total of five drivers from the Formula 3 Euro Series were classified in the top ten in the final qualifying result, for which the times of the two sessions were accumulated.

Second qualifying again didn’t run without any incidents. The first interruption already occurred soon after the start, when Felix Serralles (Fortec Motorsport, 2:14.366 minutes) hit the barriers. An accident from Lucas Auer (Van Amersfoort Racing, 2:16.187 minutes) caused the second interruption. Qualifying was stopped and not restarted after Felipe Nasr (Carlin, 2:13.556 minutes) had hit the tyre stacks.

Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam): “Finding a rhythm in this session wasn’t easy at all. There were either red or yellow flags, or we were stuck in traffic. But honestly, I have to admit that I wasn’t the only one to have these problems. Basically, I am happy with third place, because we have seen last year that one doesn’t have to be on pole position in order to win the race.”

Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport): “I am happy, because I have been among the front runners all weekend. At the start of second qualifying, I couldn’t find a slipstream and tried to drive fast all on my own. I thought that I had worn out the tyres too much. Therefore, I was all the more surprised that I was still able to improve after that. Unfortunately, the final red flag was a disadvantage for me. I couldn’t finish my lap, which might have been fast enough for pole position.”
