CIK-FIA European Karting Championship

FLYING WITH FLYNN – Ortona in Italy hosted the second and final round in the CIK-FIA European Karting Championship over the past weekend. Young hopefuls and aspiring F1 drivers from all corners of the globe took part in the event at Circuito Internazionale d’Abruzzo.
In the KFJ (Junior) category, the final event saw drivers from Ricky Flynn Motorsports grab the front row. The rising stars of British karting, Daniel Ticktum took pole, with Enaam Ahmed sharing the front row with him.
Championship challenger Nando Lorris fell back to the bottom of the field after the opening laps, allowing Ticktum to lead from the start. When it was all over, the top ten saw eight different nationalities. Ticktum took the checkered flag in first place driving an FA (as in Fernando Alonso) kart. Second was Italian Leonardo Pulcini at the wheel of a Tony Kart.
Enaam Ahmed, friend of F1Weekly and British Karting Champion last year, came in third and put this post on his Facebook page:
“Had a fantastic weekend at Ortona, won 4 heats, pre-final and came 3rd in the final!”
Jehan Daruvala was fourth. He is from Mumbai and part of the Sahara Force India Driver Development program.
The big winner of the weekend was Norris, he could only manage to finish 25th, but thanks to his Spanish success earlier he is now the 2013 European KFJ Champion.
Finishing 19th was a young German driver entered under the name Mick Betsch.
You may ask yourself, who is this kid and how did he get here? Well, the Talking Heads of motorsports will tell you that his daddy comes from the small German town of Kerpen. And in his Delta Dawn days he sent many drivers’ careers into the evening sunset.
Along the way Der Vater won 91 Formula 1 races and 7 world championships.
