F1W Familia Member Goes to Mount Panorama for the Bathurst 1000.
Vroom with a view. The Bathurst 1000 is the Greatest Spectacle In Racing in Land Down Under – after, of course, the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Albert Park, Melbourne. This year our man-on-the-spot was our mate Jason Bentley – aka the “Original JB”. Many thanks to him for sharing these shots from this year’s event.
Time for Cowshin. Stuck in the kitty litter is a sad song for the Holden Commodore of Michael Caruso and Mark “Frosty” Winterbottom. They were able to get back on the track and finished 15th after nearly seven hours of racing.
Double exhaust. No double diffuser. Kiwi Denny Hulme and now-banned-from-F1 paddock Nelson Piquet also won world championships driving Brabham cars. Tall and ever-smiling man from California Dan Gurney scored the team’s first victory in the 1964 French Grand Prix at Rouen.
Midget to Monaco. Brabham began his racing career in Midgets and Hillclimbs in Australia. His maiden F1 victory came in 1959 in Monte Carlo at the wheel of a Cooper. At the end of the season he became the first Australian World Champion.
Union went on strike. Mr Motor Racing & Black Jack were teammates in the 1976 event, then known as Hardie-Ferodo 1000. They retired after only 37 laps following a mega “done blowed-up” on their Holden Torana.
Not bad! La Aussie Vida…..
