Dr. Helmut Marko

Dr Helmut Marko has been top advisor to the Red Bull racing team since 2005 and has promoted drivers like Vettel, Ricciardo and Verstappen.
In 1971 and 1972 Helmuth Marko drove ten F1 races for BRM and McLaren but scored no points. His high school mate, Jochen Rindt, became World Champion in 1970.

1972 he won Le Mans in a team with Gijs van Lennep, my countryman, in a Porsche 917
In 1972 he drove for McLaren until he had an accident in the French GP 1972 at Clermont-Ferrand which was race 6 out of twelve.

Helmut Marko blinded by stone as Jackie Stewart wins

At a certain point in the race he was behind the Lotus of Emerson Fittipali when a small stone was thrown up by one of the Lotus’ rear wheels.
It shattered his visor and pierced his left eye and ended his driving career. He managed to get the car to a safe stop but his eye was lost. He has had a glass eye ever since
Helmut Marko has been around F1 for many years and has known and knows many, many people in and around F1.
